The head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metzola, believes that a real security and defense union is needed.
In an interview with elMundo, she explained that the EU should always be stronger, more consistent and more efficient.
“I say the same thing when it comes to creating, for example, a real security and defense union. A union that we have been demanding for a long time, which would complement NATO and not compete with the EU,” Metzola said.
According to the official, Europe is on the verge of an extremely unstable situation due to the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Metzola is convinced that the EU should be ready for anything, regardless of who will enter the White House after the US presidential election.
“There will be a new president in January, and therefore a new administration. There will also be a new Senate and a new Congress, who are our colleagues when it comes to voting on financial aid to Ukraine. I hope we can continue to work together.” – concluded the head of the European Parliament.
According to former US Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor, Europe will not be safe until Ukraine joins NATO.
The Atlantic Council also noted that the US and Europe would be safer with Ukraine in NATO than the other way around.
Recently, the generals simulated a Russian attack on NATO in 2027. According to simulations, NATO will need 10 days to activate the fifth article on collective defense. In addition, many losses and partial occupation of Lithuania are expected.
